You can install WordPress in about a minute using one of cPanel's app installers. Depending on your plan, you'll see WP Toolkit, Softaculous Apps Installer, or both.
Before you start
- Make sure your domain points to us and has an SSL certificate (see How to secure your website with SSL), so you can install on
https://from the start. - Delete any placeholder
index.htmlfrom the folder you're installing into.
Option A: WP Toolkit
- In cPanel, open WP Toolkit (in the left-hand menu or under Domains).
- Click Install.
- Under Installation path, choose
https://and your domain. Leave the folder box empty to install on the main address (e.g.https://yourdomain.co.uk). - Enter your Website title and choose the language.
- Set the WordPress administrator username, password and email.
- Leave the database settings as they are (they're generated automatically) and choose your auto-update preferences.
- Click Install.
Option B: Softaculous
- In cPanel, go to Software › Softaculous Apps Installer and click WordPress.
- Click Install Now.
- Choose https:// as the protocol and select your domain.
- In Directory: delete the default
wptext to install on your main address. - Enter the Site Name and Site Description.
- Under Admin Account, set a username, strong password and email address.
- (Optional) Under Advanced Options, turn on automatic updates and backups.
- Click Install.
After installing
Log in to your WordPress dashboard at https://yourdomain.co.uk/wp-admin.
Tip: Security basics: don't use
admin as your username, keep WordPress, themes and plugins updated, remove plugins you don't use, and make regular backups.Note: WP Toolkit and Softaculous can also clone a site to a staging copy, update everything in one click and scan for problems. They're worth exploring once your site is live.
